What is Shoresh? Shoresh is a music duo comprised of Jeff Braverman and Jonathan Rimberg. Composing their own music and original lyrics in both Hebrew and English, Jeff and Jonathan have become known as much for their exquisite harmonies as for the powerful messages in their songs. They truly are the “root” of great Jewish music!
Who is Shoresh? One half of this duo is Jeff Braverman, originally from Montreal, Canada. Jeff began his musical recording career in 1989 with the release of Songs of Peace, a compilation of his original music. After moving to the New York area, he attended Queens College while simultaneously performing in the Jewish music world and working with children in various Yeshiva day schools and summer camps including Camp Morasha where he served as part of the music staff for three years. Jeff is presently the Director of Camp Nesher, a popular summer camp for Jewish boys and girls, as well as a band leader for Nafshenu, a leading orchestra in the field of simcha music. He currently resides in West Orange, NJ with his wife Susan and their children Jordana, Melissa and Jonah.
Hailing from Fair Lawn, NJ is the other half of Shoresh, Jonathan Rimberg. Jonathan began his career in music at a young age, playing at the Bar Mitzvahs of his teacher’s children while a student at Frisch High School in Paramus, NJ. In 1981, Jonathan was a featured performer on the acclaimed production, Judaea, an album touted as “ahead of its time”. While pursuing degrees in music from both William Paterson University and the Aaron Copland School of Music he joined the Neshoma Orchestra where he became a band leader and then a partner. He has been featured on many of the leading Jewish music recordings as both a performer and producer. Presently, Jonathan is the co-owner of Nafshenu Orchestra (yes, that same one that Jeff works for!) as well as a producer at his very own recording studio, Tracks Unlimited. He currently resides in Teaneck NJ with his wife Elit and their sons Amiel and Yonadav.
How did Shoresh get together? Jeff and Jonathan met in 1989 while recording Jeff’s first album, Songs of Peace. (Jonathan did background vocals.) The two immediately became close friends and decided, over a slice of pizza (aren’t ALL important decisions made over pizza?), that the next album would be a collaborative effort between the two of them. After the success of Together As One, they started work on their next project, Shoresh, a title that the duo then took on as their official name. Their latest Shoresh recording, Candle of Freedom, was released in September, 2003.
Where can Shoresh music be purchased? All recordings are available in both CD and cassette form and can be found at most stores where Jewish music is sold. You can also order online HERE or contact Sameach Music directly at 888-3-SAMEACH or sameachone@aol.com
Is Shoresh available for live performances? Yes, but on a limited basis. Due to their extremely busy schedules, the duo must generally be booked far in advance of the performance date. Please contact us via e-mail for more information.
Are there any other recordings available by either Jeff or Jonathan? Jonathan has two recordings that he has produced and has made available through this website. Please click on either A Kumzitz Celebration or Chanukah! Your Favorite Songs for more information.
